Dry and Wet Hair Modes

Is the airflow on when in Dry Hair Mode?

No, the airflow is off when in Dry Hair Mode. You should not hear airflow when in Dry Hair Mode. 

Should my hair be wet when using Dry Hair Mode?

No, your hair should be 100% dry when using Dry Hair Mode.

Does the airflow change when in Wet Hair Mode?

The airflow should not change when in Wet Hair Mode. Only the air temperature changes between the three settings: Low air temperature, Medium air temperature, and High air temperature.

Is the airflow on when in Wet Hair Mode?

Yes, the airflow is on when in Wet Hair Mode. You should hear the airflow when in Wet Hair Mode. 

Why don't I see a light when in Wet Hair Mode?

The heated smoothing comb indicator light only turns on when in Dry Hair Mode. This light stays off in Wet Hair Mode, since the heated smoothing combs are not powered on. 

How dry should my hair be before starting to use Wet Hair Mode?

We recommended that your hair be about 70% dry before using Wet Hair Mode. For best results, be sure to section and detangle your hair before using Wet Hair mode.

How do I get my hair to be 70% dry before using Wet Hair Mode?

There are a few ways to get hair to 70% dry:

  • If you are starting with completely wet hair, you can let your hair air-dry, use a hair dryer, or use a towel until your hair is around 70% dry.
  • If you are starting with completely dry hair, use a spray bottle to dampen hair until it is around 70% dry/30% wet.

What are the heated smoothing combs?

The heated smoothing combs are the pink ceramic-coated plates that are found on either side of the unit. These combs turn on and heat up when in Dry Hair Mode to help create smooth, voluminous, buttery soft hair with finished curved ends

What is Heated Smoothing Comb Technology?

Ceramic-coated plates that heat up when in Dry Hair Mode and are designed to maximize hair alignment, volume, and shape. The combs help create voluminous, buttery soft hair with finished curved ends. 

Are the heated smoothing combs on when in Wet Hair Mode?

No, the heated smoothing combs are only on when in Dry Hair Mode. 

Are the heated smoothing combs on when in Dry Hair Mode?

Yes, the heated smoothing combs are on when in Dry Hair Mode. You will know when the heated smoothing combs are on when the heat indicator light is ON. The light will be yellow when the combs are heating up, and will turn green when they are ready to use.

What temperature are the heated smoothing combs?

The heated smoothing combs heat to 420°F when in Dry Hair Mode. The combs are off when in Wet Hair Mode.

How do you know when the heated smoothing combs are ready to use?

When in Dry Hair Mode, the heated smoothing comb heat indicator light will turn on and will appear yellow while the combs are heating up and will turn green when they are ready to use. For best results, wait until the light turns green before using Dry Hair Mode. 

Settings and Features

What are the two modes and what are they designed to do?

SmoothStyle ™ has two modes: Wet Hair Mode and Dry Hair Mode. Wet Hair Mode uses heated air for wet-to-dry volumizing and styling with no heat damage. Dry Hair Mode uses Heated Smoothing Comb Technology to straighten, align, and smooth for weightless, bouncy hair without the frizz. 

How do I change settings?

Rotate the ring on the bottom of the unit to change settings.

Is there a Cool setting?

No, there is no Cool setting. The Wet Hair Mode air temperature settings are Low, Medium, and High

What do the lights mean on the unit?

The lights are used to indicate when the heated smoothing combs are on and when they are ready to use. When in Dry Hair Mode, the heated smoothing comb heat indicator light will illuminate yellow while the combs are heating up. When the combs are ready to use, the light will turn green. For best results, wait until the light turns green before using Dry Hair Mode. 

What are the pink things on either side of the unit?

These are heated smoothing combs: ceramic-coated plates that heat up when in Dry Hair Mode to maximize hair alignment, volume, and shape. Use these combs in Dry Hair Mode for voluminous, buttery soft hair with finished curved ends. 

What are the two thicker bristles at the bottom of the brush head on either side?

The 2 thicker bristles help keep the brush bristles elevated if you set the brush down on a flat surface. Elevating the bristles so they don't touch any surfaces helps prevent bristle deformation from occurring. 

What settings are used for Wet Hair Mode?

There are 3 Wet Hair Mode air temperature settings: Low, Medium, and High. 

What setting is used for Dry Hair Mode?

The setting shown in the image below is used to turn on Dry Hair Mode. This setting turns on the heated smoothing combs in Dry Hair Mode. 

What are the air temperatures in Wet Hair Mode?

The air temperatures are approximately:

  • High: 100°C
  • Medium: 70°C
  • Low: 50°C


 

Styling Questions

My hair isn't getting very smooth and I still see frizz—what can I do?

For best smoothing performance:

  • Make sure you are using Dry Hair Mode for best smoothing results. Dry Hair Mode can be used either after Wet Hair Mode on wash days, or it can be used on its own on non-wash days to refresh your style.
  • Make sure to use Dry Hair Mode only on hair that is 100% dry.
  • Make sure the heated smoothing comb indicator light is green before using Dry Hair Mode. When the light turns green, it means the heated smoothing combs are hot and ready to use.  
  • When using Dry Hair Mode, make sure to manually rotate the brush 360° as you brush through to ensure hair passes through both sets of combs.
  • Take smaller sections of hair for smoother results.
  • If you are using any hair styling products, make sure they are designed for smoothing hair. Avoid using curl creams, mousse, or any other curl-creating products.
Do you have any tips for curly or coily hair?
  • Use smaller sections of hair for better root access and smoothing results.
  • Use hair products designed for smoothing. Avoid using curl creams, mousse, or any other curl-creating products.
  • Before you use Wet Hair Mode, make sure your hair is at least 70% dry for best results.

I have a lot of frizz after using Wet Hair Mode. What can I do?

Use Dry Hair Mode after your hair has been completely dried, then use Dry Hair Mode to help remove frizz. (Only use Dry Hair Mode on hair that is 100% dry.) 

When in Dry Hair Mode, be sure to wait until the heated smoothing comb indicator light has turned green before styling.

For optimal Dry Hair Mode performance, rotate the brush 360° as you brush through to ensure hair passes through both combs. 

My hair is snagging or getting tangled when using SmoothStyle. What can I do to prevent this?
  • Fully detangle your hair before using Wet Hair Mode and Dry Hair Mode.
  • Use smaller sections of hair for more control during styling.
  • Try to keep your hair concentrated around the middle of the brush head to help avoid snagging at the top or bottom of the brush.
