This article contains the FAQs for the IZ600 Series Shark® Vertex™ Pro Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum. This supports the following product SKUs IZ600, IZ640H, IZ641H, IZ642H, IZ661HC, IZ662H, IZ662HC, IZ682H, and IZ690H.

Is the battery removable?

The battery on the IZ64X Series is not removable. To charge the battery, plug the charger directly into the port on the handheld vacuum.
The batteries on the IZ66XH/IZ68XH series are removable and can be charged on or off unit.

What do the lights on the battery mean?

The first and last LED lights are flashing: Battery temperature is not optimal, so charging is temporarily paused. Leave battery plugged in and charging will resume soon.
If the first 2 or last 2 LED lights are flashing, call Customer Service (1-800-798-7398).

How do I charge the battery and how long does it take to charge?

Charge the battery by plugging the charger into the port on the handheld vacuum. Use only Shark® chargers and charging docks as other chargers may damage the unit or fail to charge it.

How long will the battery run?

The initial charge on the pack (out of the box) is approximately 30%. Prior to first use, charge completely. During first use, run the battery down until it is completely out of power. This will condition the battery.
These runtimes are based on new fully charged battery:
• IZ640H Series handheld vacuum only in ECO mode: approximately 50 minutes
• IZ662H Series handheld vacuum only in ECO mode: approximately 60 minutes
• IZ682H Series handheld vacuum only in ECO mode: approximately 120 minutes with 2 battery packs used consecutively.
• Handheld vacuum only with BOOST mode: approximately 10 minutes
• Bare Floor mode: approximately 46 minutes
• Bare Floor mode with BOOST: approximately 25 minutes
• Carpet mode: approximately 30 minutes
• Carpet mode with BOOST: approximately 10 minutes
Like all lithium-ion products, the battery will naturally decrease in capacity over time.

The battery seems to have a shorter runtime than expected. What should I do?

Out of the box, the initial battery charge is approximately 30%. Prior to first use, charge completely. During first use, run the battery down until it is completely out of power. This will condition the battery.
Note that battery runtime is affected by the duration of use and the type of surface being cleaned. For example, vacuuming a thick carpet in Boost mode will result in shorter runtime than vacuuming bare floors.
These runtimes are based on new fully charged battery:
• IZ640H Series handheld vacuum only mode: approximately 50 minutes
• IZ662H Series handheld vacuum only mode: approximately 60 minutes
• IZ682H Series handheld vacuum only mode: approximately 120 minutes with 2 battery packs used consecutively.

What does it mean if an error code is displayed?

If an error code appears, see the chart in the Troubleshooting section of the Owner's Guide for more information.
• F8 - nozzle motor has overheated. Wait 60 minutes to allow the nozzle to cool down. Clear debris from unit/nozzle while waiting.
• E6 - red Filter icon flashing, headlights and motor are off: the unit has a clog. Search for clog and clean unit.

What if the battery is warm to the touch or indicates that it's too warm to charge?

The battery may feel warm during use. This is normal as batteries increase in temperature slightly during discharge. If the battery feels uncomfortably warm, stop using the vacuum and allow the battery to cool. Plug the charger into the battery port and check the indicator lights on the handheld vacuum for error codes. If the battery is too warm to charge, the first and third LEDs will blink. Leave the battery plugged in and charging will resume automatically when the battery has reached a normal temperature.
If the battery is too warm after use, the charger will pause until the battery cools before it begins charging.

When and how do I clean the filters?

Filters may need to be cleaned if the vacuum stops picking up dirt, if airflow is restricted, or if you notice decreased or no suction. For optimal performance, clean the filters regularly. Rinse them with water only. Do not use soap. Allow all filters to air-dry completely before reinstalling. Between cleanings, lightly tap filters over a trash receptacle to remove dust and debris as needed.
Rinse the pre-motor foam and felt filters every month, or as needed.
• First, remove the dust cup to access the pre-motor filters. Press the release button on the handheld vacuum, then pull the dust cup down and away to remove.
• Remove the foam and felt filters using the tab provided.
• Rinse both filters with water only.
• Allow filters to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
• Once dry, install the foam filter first, followed by the felt filter.
• Reinstall the dust cup.
Rinse the post-motor HEPA filter every 12 months, or as needed. • Remove the dust cup by pressing the release button on the handheld vacuum, then pulling the dust cup down and away.
• The post-motor filter is attached to a plastic frame inside the handheld vacuum. Press the tabs and pull the filter off the frame.
• Rinse the post-motor filter with water only.
• Allow filter to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
• Once dry, reinstall the post-motor filter.
• Reinstall the dust cup.

When and how do I empty the dust cup?

For optimal performance, empty the dust cup each time you vacuum, or when debris reaches the MAX FILL line.
• Detach the handheld vacuum from the wand by pressing the wand release button.
• Position the dust cup over a trash receptacle, then open the bottom dust cup door by sliding the CleanTouch™ Dirt Ejector slider forward.
• Tap gently to empty contents.
• Remove any debris or hair from the cone-shaped screen inside the dust cup.
• Wipe the interior of the dust cup clean if needed.
• Close the dust cup door, pressing it until it clicks into place.

How do I access and clean the DuoClean ® PowerFins™ brushroll and Soft Roller?

For the PowerFins™ brushroll:
• Turn the floor nozzle over and use a coin to turn the locks on the bottom cover counterclockwise. Lift off the cover to access the brushroll.
• Clear away any string, hair, or debris wrapped around the brushroll and in the nozzle openings.
• To reattach the bottom cover, press down firmly along all sides. Turn the locks clockwise to close.
For the Soft Roller:
• Slide the tab on the left side of the nozzle and pull out the Soft Roller.
• Clear away any string, hair, or debris wrapped around the Soft Roller and in the nozzle openings.
• Hand-wash the Soft Roller as needed, using only water. Let air-dry completely for 24 hours before use.
• To reinstall the Soft Roller, just snap it back into place.

How do I assemble the vacuum?

• Insert the wand into the floor nozzle.
• Insert the handheld vacuum into the wand.
For proper operation, ensure all parts are firmly clicked into place.

How do I use the different cleaning modes?

Press power button to turn vacuum on or off.
To clean bare floors or small area rugs:
• Press the floor select button until the hard floor icon (see below) illuminates. The brushrolls will spin slowly to clean bare floors and small area rugs.
• To engage the brushroll, step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handheld vacuum back.
To clean carpets:
• To vacuum in carpet mode, press the floor select button until the carpet icon (see below) illuminates. The brushrolls will spin faster to pick up debris below the surface of your carpets.
• To engage the brushroll, step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handheld vacuum back.
In all settings, for an added boost of suction power, press the suction power button (see below) to toggle between ECO, Deep Clean, and Boost modes. To save battery power, select ECO mode. For everyday cleaning power, select Deep Clean Mode. For an extra burst of power, select Boost mode

How do I clean above floors with or without accessories?

To clean above floors:
• Press the wand release button at the top of the wand to detach the handheld vacuum.
• Attach an accessory to the handheld vacuum for more cleaning options.
For more cleaning reach:
• Leave the handheld vacuum on the wand and detach the wand from the floor nozzle. Press the nozzle release button on the bottom of the wand, then gently pull up on the handheld vacuum to remove the wand.
• Attach an accessory to the handheld vacuum or the wand and begin cleaning.
In all settings, for an added boost of suction power, press the suction power button (see below) to toggle between ECO, Deep Clean, and Boost modes. To save battery power, select ECO mode. For everyday cleaning power, select Deep Clean Mode. For an extra burst of power, select Boost mode.

What is MultiFLEX® technology and how do I use it?

MultiFLEX® technology allows the wand to bend, making it easy to clean under furniture. The MultiFLEX® wand also folds over for freestanding, compact storage.
• To bend the wand, press the unlock latch on the back, then adjust the wand angle.
• For storage, turn off the vacuum and press the unlock latch on the back of the wand. Fold the handheld vacuum forward toward the floor nozzle.

How do I store my vacuum?

Store your vacuum securely and out of reach of children or pets.
If your vacuum is equipped with a MultiFLEX® wand, you can fold the wand over for freestanding compact storage.
• Press the unlock latch on the back of the wand, then fold the handheld vacuum forward, toward the floor nozzle.
• Another option is to simply place the vacuum flat on the floor. The rubber pads on the base of the handheld vacuum will prevent scratching.

What should I do if my vacuum is hard to push or pull?

Check to see which setting you are using. If the unit is difficult to push or pull, switch to a lower suction mode, such as ECO mode.
The floor select button on the handle allows you to adjust suction power as well as brushroll speed.
• For thick/high pile carpets, use the Carpet setting. Press the floor select button until the carpet icon illuminates.
• For area rugs, mats, and specialty carpets, press the floor select button until the hard floor icon illuminates.

What should I do if the vacuum doesn't turn on, or turns off on its own?

Ensure the battery is charged. If it is charged and the issue persists, please follow these steps:
1. Turn off the vacuum.
2. Detach the handheld vacuum from the wand.
3. Press the dust cup release button and lift off the dust cup.
4. Empty the dust cup into the trash by sliding the CleanTouch™ Dirt Ejector slider forward. Clear away any debris from the cone-shaped screen inside the dust cup, then close the lid.
5. Remove the pre-motor filters from the back of the dust cup. Tap filters over the trash to remove dirt and debris.
6. Remove the post-motor filter from the frame inside the handheld vacuum. Press the tabs and pull the filter off the frame.
7. Tap the filter over the trash to remove dirt and debris, and then reinstall it.
8. Reinstall the pre-motor filters and reattach the dust cup to the handheld vacuum.
9. Detach the wand by pressing the nozzle release button at the bottom of the wand. Drop a coin into the wand. If the coin doesn't fall through, then there is a clog that must be cleared.
10. To clear clogs in the floor nozzle, turn the nozzle over and use a coin to turn the locks on the bottom cover counterclockwise. Lift off the cover to access the brushroll.
11. Clear away any clogs or debris around the brushroll and in the nozzle openings.
12. To reattach the bottom cover, press down firmly along all sides. Turn the locks clockwise to close.
13. Reassemble the vacuum.
14. Once the vacuum has cooled for 60 minutes, turn it back on.

What should I do if the brushroll stops spinning?

If the PowerFins™ brushroll isn't spinning, but the vacuum is running, clear any debris from the brushroll, and check for error codes on the indicator lights on the handheld vacuum.
If the brushroll indicator light is SOLID red, simply turn the vacuum off, then turn it back on.
If the brushroll indicator light is FLASHING red:
• Turn off the vacuum.
• Detach the floor nozzle from the wand.
• To access the brushroll, turn the floor nozzle over and use a coin to turn the locks on the bottom cover counterclockwise. Lift off the cover to access the brushroll.
• Clear any clogs, hair, or debris inside the nozzle openings.
• Reattach the bottom cover and turn the locks clockwise to close.
• Reconnect the floor nozzle to the wand.
• Allow the vacuum to cool for 60 minutes before turning it back on.

What happens if I experience small static shocks while vacuuming?

Certain dry conditions in winter or dry desert areas may cause common static electricity to build up in the vacuum, producing small shocks, like what you might experience from contact with doorknobs, wool sweaters, or blankets. This is harmless. To avoid this, we recommend moisturizing your hands and/or removing wool socks or sweaters prior to vacuuming.

What should I do if the vacuum is not picking up dirt or debris?

1. Turn off the vacuum.
2. Detach the handheld vacuum from the wand.
3. Press the dust cup release button and lift off the dust cup.
4. Empty the dust cup into the trash by sliding the CleanTouch™ Dirt Ejector slider forward. Clear away any debris from the cone-shaped screen inside the dust cup, then close the lid.
